Dr Peter Oakley specialises in ethnographic research focusing on materials, making and manufacturing, especially relating to the production of prestige materials, luxury goods and artworks.
Peter was awarded his PhD in anthropology from University College London for a doctoral thesis on the circulation of gold from a material culture perspective. Over the past two decades he has conducted field research in Alaska, California, China, Kazakhstan, New Mexico, Sweden, Thailand, and the UK.
Peter supervises PhD projects focusing on the creative industries from a material culture perspective and employing either participant-observation or autoethnography as the primary research method.
