Chang Hee Lee is a tutor (Assistant Professor) in Innovation Design Engineering (IDE) at the Royal College of Art (RCA), London. He is interested in finding new meanings for interactions to discover novel ways of perceiving the physical world. This interest led him to explore the interaction between humans and machines, products and users, and the physical and mental worlds of humans. His experiments have led him to investigate a variety of sources such as synaesthesia, interaction design, human-machine interaction (HMI), physical-computing, data physicalisation and so on.

His research and projects have been widely discussed at institutions such as the Royal College of Art (RCA), Harvard University, University College London (UCL), Carnegie Mellon University, Camden Arts Centre and the Open Senses festival. His work has appeared in various print publications, such as the Design Journal and the book Synaesthesia (MIT Press, 2018), as well as online platforms such as BBC and ACM Interactions. His research has been published and distributed on internationally recognised domains such as ACM CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI 2017 & 2019), International Association of Societies of Design Research (IASDR), ACM SIGCHI Designing Interactive Systems (DIS 2018 Best Paper Award-PWIP) and International Astronautical Congress (IAC).
He has a PhD in Innovation Design Engineering from the Royal College of Art (RCA). He is a graduate of the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) and obtained his master’s in Design Critical Practice at Goldsmiths, University of London.
