Abstract or Description: | This essay 'Homework' was commissioned for the catalogue for Garry Fabian Miller's 'Making Thinking Living' exhibition, shown at the Crafts Study Centre,UCA Farnham, 18 October - 10 December 2016. The underlying subject of the exhibitio was colour.The catalogue included an Introduction and a sequence of 4 texts by the artist photographer Garry Fabian Miller on his selections from the CSC collection and archives, of etchings by the printmaker and craft collector Robin Tanner, textiles and documents from the pioneering modernist textile artists Ethel Mairet and Elizabeth Peacock, and a sequence of lidded jars by the eminent octogenarian potter Richard Batterham. It primarily exhibited a sequence of photographic works by Miller. All works in the catalogue were in the exhibition.The catalogue included a Preface by Simon Olding, Director of CSC. My essay introduced the artist, his chosen works, and the environment in which he lives and works on Dartmoor, Devon, UK . |
