Abstract or Description:

This exhibition reviews Rolfe’s artistic practice through his past work, site-specific photographs, and more recent pieces. In addition, the exhibition presents important video works by the artist.

A major survey retrospective in the prestigious Red Brick Museum in Beijing China. Installed in the museum were twenty five large scale photo works, framed and dibond mounted on aluminium. These were in a number of curated sections:
1) history works from the performance archive (1970s-1980s)
2) works made over the past five years in China
3) works made in the landscape and on site
4) action works and heads
5) two sets of performance works made the days of the opening- within the museum grounds and at the Great Wall Of China.

A retrospective history of video works were installed as series of large flat screens and also two works – Into The Mire and Dust Breeding as large video installations in dedicated rooms.
There were four performance works made during the exhibition, two in the museum grounds, one on site at the Great Wall and “Dissonance” performed at the opening and then its debris and remains left behind and installed on a 9 metre square platform as a residual performance sculptural installation.

The exhibition was highly publicised in both international and Chinese media, including the China Daily News in the USA and Phoenix TV in Hong Kong and China. The retrospective included a conference live interview discussion with the curator and an adequate small booklet which accompanied the show.
